Buenos Aires, Memoria Antigua. Fotografías 1850-1900

A must-read reference for everyone interested in studying the origins and history of Argentine photography. This is the most comprehensive book edited so far on images of the city of Buenos Aires in the second half of the XIX century. A high-quality edition, both on account of its illustrations and of its texts. The book explores the photographic techniques and areas of interest for photographers, which allows sensing the changes that took place in half a century, from the “Great Village” to the modern metropolis.

The work includes over 300 photographs – most of them unpublished, taken by the most important authors of views and habits of the time, like Esteban Gonnet, Benito Panunzi, Christiano Junior, Antonio Pozzo, Samuel and Arturo Boote, Alejandro witcomb, Samuel Rimathé, and Harry Olds, among others, and the Argentine Amateur Photographers’ Society (Sociedad Fotográfica Argentina de Aficionados).

It features a research text on the history of photography and on the main photographers, and another text on the development of the city of Buenos Aires during that period.
